In Compensation for Chocolate Chips and Peanut Butter

If it weren’t for chocolate chips and peanut butter, I would be a fairly healthy person. It wasn’t until I rounded the “over 40” corner and my cholesterol surpassed 200 that I finally started walking (almost) every day.
But in addition to a writing career, I’m also a wife, mom, student, and church member. My “free” time is consumed by school activities, helping with homework, and prep for the occasional holidays/birthdays. I don’t have time to walk every day!
So I learned to multitask my walks in a way that made my daily health duty something I look forward to.
While I’m walking, I pray.
Particularly, I pray for my husband, Robbie. It’s not that he needs prayer more than anything else, but God created me to be his helper (Genesis 2:18). What better help can I offer than to go to God on his behalf?
I pray God would help him with any particular troubles, and I pray God would show me how to live out the qualities he needs in a wife. Not only does this keep Robbie in front of God’s throne, but it keeps my heart soft and empathetic toward him.
I guess you could say I’m healthier all the way around. (Despite the chocolate chips and peanut butter.)
